Welcome
Thank you for visiting our recruitment site and for your interest in our exciting and ambitious plans for Harlow and Gilston Garden Town.
The Harlow and Gilston Garden Town is one of the country’s largest Garden Towns in the country and is the primary catalyst for the regeneration of Harlow and its town centre economy. Harlow is increasingly attracting world class employers locating into the Harlow Enterprise Zone and the Harlow Science Park. The UK public sector presence is led by Public Health England relocating its operations to the town. The growing economy is already seeing a demand emerge for homes, leisure and work space. We are also anticipating future demand and the Garden Town objectives recognise this current, as well as future, demand and has set about planning the delivery of new neighbourhoods and the infrastructure to support them.
We have taken the first steps in establishing a Garden Town Board and we have appointed a Chair, Guy Nicholson, to lead a Board which will bring together individuals from Local Government, business, commerce, community and education.
Our Director, Claire Hamilton, is now establishing a dedicated and committed Garden Town team. Both Claire and I are focussed on ensuring that, to meet the challenges ahead, we create an organisation that is as supportive as it is professional, building a confident team able to respond to challenge and opportunity with equal measure so we can set about creating a Garden Town that will realise a legacy to support generations to come.
To date the region’s Local Authority partners have worked closely together and now is the right moment to capitalise on this consensus and collaboration. Both Claire and I hope that what we can offer you is an extraordinary opportunity to realise an extraordinary ambition for an extraordinary community.
Claire and I look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes
Guy
Chair of Harlow & Gilston Garden Town Board
Our Vision
Our early work has articulated and established some of the founding principles for the Garden Town, and these are captured in the Garden Town Vision which you can read by using the link below. This Vision is at the heart of the Garden Town Team and the work that we do.
The Councils
The Harlow and Gilston Garden Town project has 5 Local Authority partners:
East Herts District Council
Harlow District Council
Epping Forest District Council
Essex County Council
Hertfordshire County Council
The Harlow and Gilston Garden Town Board was formed in 2017 after the Local Government partners in the region identified a need to establish a formal cooperation between the organisations to deliver sustainable and lasting regeneration. The Board is designed to realise our collective ambition to identify and deliver on cross boundary strategic matters to accommodate and coordinate housing and economic growth in the region. Board members have worked together to develop proposals for Harlow and Gilston Garden Town which will see 16,000 homes built in the period to 2033 with a further 7,000 planned for beyond 2033. In January 2017, these proposals were granted formal Garden Town status by Government.
A significant amount of work has gone into developing these ambitious proposals over recent years and we are working together to address a number of challenges which include the development of a housing plan, strategic infrastructure investment, innovation in sustainable travel and ensuring regeneration is inclusive – working with local communities, not against them.
